James Brennan and his wife Maryellen have been living in Kilnacourt Wood, Portarlington, Co. Laois for the last 6 years. James, originally from Donegal and a retired Army man, could not believe the damage limescale build-up was causing to his kitchen appliances when he first arrived in Portarlington 6 years ago.

Limescale Build-Up Was a BIG Problem

“Limescale would build-up all around the house”, said James. “The shower head, shower door, even the taps had a disgusting layer of scum on them from the continuous build-up of limescale“. The gas fitter told us that servicing our hot water boiler wouldn’t solve our constant breakdown problems because of the “kettling” (limescale build-up) on the heater element inside the water kettle. It was going to cost us between €300 to €400 to fix and even then we knew we would face the same repairs in a couple of years' time unless we did something about it.

“I suppose it really came to head (pardon the pun) for me when, after dying my hair one evening, I went to rinse-out the dye and the shower nozzle just wouldn’t work…it was completely clogged with limescale!” Not long after that hair dying disaster, Maryellen had the EWT water softening system and drinking filter installed.
